The Problem

Rod's Ribbonry, a boutique kawaii merchandise store, needed a highly visual, playful e-commerce experience that didn't rely on traditional credit card gateways, which are restrictive in their target market. They required a custom checkout pipeline that seamlessly forwarded complex cart data directly into a WhatsApp order flow with integrated bKash payment tracking.

The Approach

We built the storefront using Next.js 16, utilizing Framer Motion and Lenis smooth scrolling to deliver the bouncy, kawaii aesthetic without compromising on 60 FPS performance. For the checkout, we engineered a custom state machine that serialized the user's cart (including custom ribbon variants and quantities) into a pre-formatted WhatsApp deep link. For the bKash payment integration in Next.js, we designed a client-side modal that captures transaction IDs securely before handing off the conversational thread to the WhatsApp Business API.

The Result

The bespoke WhatsApp order flow integration in Next.js removed the friction of traditional multi-step checkouts for their specific demographic. The store processed over 1,200 orders in the first three weeks, with the Framer Motion micro-interactions contributing to a session duration increase of over 120%.

Lessons

Handling deep links to WhatsApp desktop vs. mobile required careful user-agent sniffing to ensure the `wa.me` API didn't fail on certain browsers. In the future, we would implement a fallback QR code generator on desktop to guarantee the handoff to the mobile WhatsApp app never drops.
